Walking Tours of Dubrovnik

The city walls, which have been exceptionally well maintained, encircle the old town and its fortifications on all sides. You are able to start the tour at the Pile gate and continue around the circuit in a path that is backward relative to the way that time is typically presented. At the Onufri fountain, which is situated just opposite the entrance that leads into the Pile area, you will be able to fill up any water containers that you may have brought with you. Because of this never-ending supply of water, Dubrovnik was able to withstand an assault by Arabs who arrived from southern Italy that lasted for 15 months on TWO different occasions.

Topkapi Palace

The Topkapi Palace is one of the most important museums in the world. It has portraits of all the Ottoman sultans, as well as the staff of Moses and other religiously important things. It’s also a very popular place to visit, so it’s best to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds.

The palace is home to four courtyards and numerous other buildings for the Sultan’s advisors, servants, and families. You can explore the imperial kitchens and relics rooms and admire intricate tiles in the Harem on a small-group tour.

Skip the line to enter and learn about the history of this magnificent palace from an expert guide. The palace and Harem are included in Istanbul’s major city sightseeing passes, including the Istanbul Welcome Card and the Istanbul E-Pass. Wheelchair access is limited and there are cobblestones and small slopes in the courtyards. Some rooms have small marble door frames that can be difficult to navigate.

Banja Luka Fortress

Banja Luka is a large town and the second largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s the capital of the entity Republika Srpska and a city of great architectural interest.

The oldest structure in Banja Luka is Kastel. The left bank of the Vrbas River is dominated by this big stone castle. It is thought to be where the city started, and archaeological evidence shows that it has been there for a very long time. The first towns of Gravettian hunters were found on this site in prehistoric times.

In the Roman era, this area was an important military base. The castle was located on an extremely important road that ran from Split / Salona to Gradiska / Servitium. During the Middle Ages, it was the center of trade and production. Today, the fortress is home to a summer stage, a playground for children, and a national restaurant. It is also part of a new tourist route that promotes Balkan fortresses.

Ploce Gate

The Ploce Gate is one of the main ways into the Old Town of Dubrovnik. It has gates on both the inside and outside of the city, which are linked by a bridge over the city wall. The Outer Gates were built in the 1600s and have a Renaissance arch. On top of them is a figure of St. Blaise, who is the patron saint of Dubrovnik.

Next to these gates are new, larger gates opened during the period of Austrian occupation in the 19th century. The Inner gates are built in Romanesque style and are really small. Above them is a stone statue of the city’s patron Saint Blaise.

The stairs make this a steep walk that is not good for pregnant women or young children. A walk around the walls, which is about 2 kilometers long, takes about two hours and gives you great views of the city and sea. If you want to save time, you can take a bus.
